Boosting Confidence and Overcoming Self Doubt
A common concern among people looking to improve themselves is building confidence. I’ve been experiencing some self doubt myself lately, particularly about the viability of my business. I was really frustrated and considered scrapping it entirely. But I knew that giving up before getting started is a common theme for me…one that I intentionally seek to change. After recognizing the stories I was telling myself were nothing more than fear and self doubt creeping in, I decided to do something about it. I went to my toolkit of stuff I know works. I got out my journal and started working through my Miracle Morning routine because I know how helpful those Life S.A.V.E.R.S. are. As I write this, I’m profoundly grateful for the gift of my Miracle Morning and other tricks I’ve learned to get my mind right.
Since I was debating a purchase to support my business, I sought out a guided visualization on abundance. Boom! I instantly felt better by helping myself to that massive attitude adjustment. After that, I adopted a new affirmation for myself: doubt is a liar and courage will set me free. This will be my mantra until it becomes a core belief. I will read and recite this daily, multiple times, to reinforce it.
After my affirmations, I decided to read a little from Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits if Highly Effective People. I found myself scrolling to get to the meat of the book and stopped when I saw “I want it now” in bold print. Ugh, in that moment, I realized I was caught up in wanting it now when the whole purpose of reading that book was to grow, not skim. So, I scrolled back and actually read the foreword and the note from Stephen’s children. I’m so glad I did. Not only was it a good read and increased my appreciation for the man behind the words, it was a learning moment for me to slow down. Slowing down to fully engage may be one of my themes for 2018. I look forward to exploring that later.
My search for a guided meditation moved a useful Tony Robbins audio clip to the top of my recommended YouTube videos. Thank you, universe. Thank you, internet algorithms! The clip is about creating confidence. Below are a few notes I took. Let me know what you think by sharing in the comments.
- Change your physical state to change your emotional state.
- Mind your focus. Our thoughts and words become our reality. Hoping versus expecting. Focus on how to get it done.
- Change your core beliefs. Imagine it. Achieve it. If you’re committed, there’s always a way to make it work.
- Success cycle. Potential, actions, results, beliefs. Starts with beliefs. You cannot be successful if you don’t believe it. We all have unlimited potential. Results are limited based on actions. Mediocre action results in mediocre results that reinforce beliefs that you can’t succeed. Alternately, massive action results in massive results reinforcing belief that you are successful. How do you get in the cycle? Change beliefs by changing results in advance. Rehearse to condition your mind to believe.
- Stop analyzing yourself and start focusing on helping others.
- Manage your memories. Recall five tough situations you succeeded at.
