Get in There and Practice,  Mindset and Perspective

Change Your Mood, Change Your Life

My lesson in today’s patience meditation was a reminder that what we do right now is influencing how we think and feel in the future.  How insanely empowering, right?  How we show up is entirely up to us.

Here’s a relatable fact: a Facebook friend posted about what a drag Monday was and what a long week it will be because he’ll have an extra long commute. Guess what? For him, he’s right.  That mindset is going to guarantee a crummy week. He’s essentially promised it to himself.

Not getting excited over an unpleasant task is normal, I get it. But we get to choose how we respond to it.  There is usually always something to gain out of even the most unpleasant circumstances.  If nothing else, they are teaching moments and opportunities to practice patience and other virtues.  I guess what I’m saying is there are opportunities all around us to make lemonade from lemons. And to borrow another cliche, just because we’re given a cactus, doesn’t mean we have to sit on it!

Side note: I actually have have some experience with the long commute scenario, so this was an easy one for me to solve. I fill my drive time with podcasts and audiobooks on personal development. But you could choose something entertaining. You could also use it to brainstorm creative projects. I have a terrible memory, so I would want to use a recorder to retain my brilliant ideas!!  Voila! Lemonade!

What kind of mood are you in right now? Here are a few easy things you can do to start practicing improving your mood:
  1. Check your mood regularly.
  2. Think with gratitude. It’s hard to be a sourpuss with a kind heart.
  3. Make a list of things that make you feel great.
  4. When your mood isn’t aces, pick something from your list to do so you can get back to feeling amazing.
